Betwixt and Between

A new friend and I were recently discussing the place of in-between, where what is coming is not yet here. At what point does it become real? At inception? Conclusion? Or somewhere along the way?

In the waiting it often looks like nothing is happening, especially if forward motions isn’t visible to the naked eye. But does visibility determine if something is real?

When my good friend Lefty mentioned she was moving from one dwelling to another, it didn’t look like she was moving. No boxes were packed, and mail and even groceries continued being delivered to her door.

Behind the scenes, having already determined it was time to move, she made phone calls and scheduled appointments. Even when her name was added to a waiting list, there was still no visible evidence of moving. The potted plants on her patio grew big and lush. right next to the patio furniture. All summer she could be found lounging in her hammock, sipping iced tea, eating lunch at midday and reading books in late afternoon.

One day, a big truck arrived with a small entourage. Four hours later, all traces of her were gone. To neighbors, it looked like she up and left in the blink of an eye.

Even when you know an event is coming it may look like nothing is happening. However, the time in between is anything but static. Utilities must be switched, a moving van scheduled, and boxes packed . Each step builds on the next. On moving day, the crew loaded boxes and a few short hours later, she landed in a new city and started a new life.

What this means for you

When you begin a new venture, there are many steps that must occur between the time you have the idea until you launch. Even though it won’t always seem apparent, you may feel that everything is static. The reality is that momentum is building. Every action is an investment in the future with the launch in mind.

From the time an author wants to write a book until it is completed, a lot of time can pass. To those on the outside, it may seem that nothing is happening. But the author is writing, thinking about the story, jotting ideas down, snippets of conversation or adding little embellishments. As any would-be author can tell you, penning a book is no small process. Though it appears to be a lot of betwixt and between, a consistent series of steps brings the book to completion.

Sometimes momentum can be lost, even when the goal is clear. If you or someone you know is trying to get their book back on track, schedule a complimentary 30-minute consultation. Together we can get your literary property back on the rails and rolling forward again, so that by this time next year, your goal can be realized.
